Coweta Institution Release Paths
Coweta County Correctional Institution, also called Coweta County Prison on the county page, is a county correctional institution connected to Georgia’s state correctional system. GDC lists it as a medium-security institution for adult male felons. State and county offenders may be placed there. That role makes its release records unlike a bond release from Coweta County Jail.
A person can leave through parole, maximum-sentence discharge, transfer to another GDC facility, transfer to a transitional center, return to a court or county, or another authorized movement. Parole places the person under supervision in the community. A maximum release marks the end of the prison term recorded by GDC, though another legal status may still require attention. A transfer changes the institution but does not end custody.

Confirm Coweta Institution Releases
The Georgia Department of Corrections offender search is the primary online lookup. It covers people serving or formerly serving Georgia correctional sentences, including GDC offenders placed at a county correctional institution. The search is not limited to people who are still incarcerated. Its scope controls include active offenders, inactive offenders, or both.
- Open GDC Find an Offender and read the agency disclaimer.
- Search by last and first name, GDC ID, or case number.
- Choose “Only Inactive Offenders” for a known release, or use both scopes if status is uncertain.
- Use “Released In The Past 15 Days” for a recent state corrections release.
- Use “Max Prison Term Ending Next 15 Days” for a near-term maximum sentence end.
- Filter by most recent institution or conviction county when the name produces several results.
- Check parole tools when the record points to parole rather than final discharge.
- Verify important details with GDC Inmate Records and Information.
GDC warns that its public search is offered for convenience and does not guarantee completeness or accuracy. The agency directs users to verify information by written correspondence with Inmate Records and Information at P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. That instruction is the formal fallback when the online result is unclear or when a release date or institution must be documented.
Coweta GDC Release Fields
The offender form offers name, identifying detail, institution, offense, sentence-status, conviction-county, and record-scope fields. A GDC ID is the agency’s unique offender number, also called a UNO. The case-number search can use an offense number that may begin with letter prefixes. These identifiers are stronger than a name alone when several people share similar names.
| Search field | Release use |
|---|---|
| Name and alias | Starts the state search when no ID is known. |
| GDC ID or case number | Narrows the result to the correct state offender or offense record. |
| Most recent institution | Checks whether the record connects to Coweta County Correctional Institution. |
| Conviction county | Links the state record to the sentencing county when relevant. |
| Inactive offenders | Finds people not currently incarcerated in GDC. |
| Released past 15 days | Targets a recent state correctional release. |
| Max term ending next 15 days | Finds a near-term maximum prison term end. |
GDC can display an offender photo when available. That is a state correctional image and may not be the same photo from an earlier Coweta County Jail booking. Institution, GDC ID, conviction county, and sentence status should be compared before treating a similar name as the correct person.
Note: “Inactive” is a GDC custody category, not proof that every sentence, supervision term, or outside hold has ended.
Coweta Parole Release Records
Parole timing is split between a pre-release tool and a post-release tool. The Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles provides the Inmate Tentative Parole Month lookup before release. A TPM is the month when the Board expects to complete final review and, if appropriate, set a parole release date. It is not a final decision or a guaranteed release month.
Good conduct and required program completion can affect a TPM. Misconduct reports usually cause postponement or cancellation. After a person actually leaves the institution on parole, the Board’s parolee database is the more relevant record. It confirms parole status rather than merely showing a point in the review process. DCS then provides the field-office and community-supervision layer.
- TPM
- A tentative month for final parole review, not a promised release date.
- Parole
- Conditional release from prison under community supervision.
- Max-out
- The end of the maximum prison term recorded for the sentence.
- Discharge
- The recorded end of a correctional or supervision status.
Georgia’s Performance Incentive Credit program can offer eligible offenders ways to reduce time through progress in education, treatment, vocational programs, work, and good conduct. It is not automatic for every offender. Mandatory-minimum statutes can also limit release paths. A projected date, PIC opportunity, parole eligibility point, and actual release are four different concepts.
Coweta Release Supervision Office
The Georgia Department of Community Supervision handles felony probation and parole supervision. Its Newnan Field Office serves Coweta and the Coweta Circuit. That office is the local state-supervision point after a parole release from Coweta County Correctional Institution or when a felony sentence includes community supervision.

Coweta State Court Probation is a separate local office for applicable State Court matters. It should not be substituted for DCS felony or parole supervision. The State Court office is at 10 Olive Street in Newnan and lists 770-252-6440. A person released from the correctional institution may have DCS supervision, while a different person completing a local misdemeanor case may report through State Court Probation.
Note: The parole board decides parole status; DCS manages the community-supervision field office after an applicable release.
Coweta Institution and Jail Releases
Coweta’s local map includes both the Sheriff’s county jail and this GDC-listed county correctional institution. The distinction is the central facility-specific issue. Coweta County Jail at Greison Trail handles arrests, pretrial detention, short local terms, and transfers. Coweta County Correctional Institution at Selt Road serves adult male felons and county offenders in a medium-security prison setting.
GDC says the institution was constructed in 1976, opened in 1977, and renovated in 1989 and 2000. It lists capacity as 210 and describes a mission that includes keeping state and county offenders and providing a general work force for Coweta County government. The county prison page reports 216 beds and state offenders. Both figures should retain their source context rather than being merged or “corrected” without evidence.
This history explains why P2C is not the main release search here. A person leaving Selt Road may remain within GDC through a transfer or may move into parole and DCS records. By contrast, a person leaving the Sheriff jail after bond remains in the local booking and court stream. The Coweta County Jail release page covers that distinct local route.
Coweta Institution Release Contact
GDC lists Coweta County Correctional Institution at 101 Selt Road, Newnan, GA 30263, with 770-254-3723 as the facility phone. The county page lists 770-254-3723 and 770-254-3728, fax 770-254-3738, and a Counselor’s Office at 770-254-3720. The Counselor’s Office provides complete visitation information during its weekday office hours. Visitation hours are not release-processing hours and should not be used to predict when a person will depart.

The captured GDC page anchors the release search in the state correctional system instead of the Sheriff’s local inmate catalog.
Coweta Institution Records Verification
When the online offender record needs formal verification, follow GDC’s written-record instruction. Address correspondence to Inmate Records and Information, P.O. Box 1529, Forsyth, GA 31029. GDC also lists an inmate concerns and questions line at 404-656-4661 and general mail at 300 Patrol Road, Forsyth, GA 31029. Identify the person by full name, GDC ID, case number, and most recent institution when known.
Parole-board records belong with the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, not the county Sheriff. Supervision records belong with DCS and may be limited by law or policy. A court order remains important if the question concerns the sentence itself. Keeping each request with the agency that created the record reduces conflict between a stale online status and a later parole, discharge, or transfer entry.
The Coweta County released inmates search compares county-jail, state-prison, parole, federal, and records-request channels. For this institution, GDC remains the starting point. Coweta P2C becomes relevant only if a separate local jail booking also exists.
Coweta Institution Release Dates
A maximum prison term, TPM, parole eligibility date, and actual release date are not interchangeable. GDC’s “Max Prison Term Ending Next 15 Days” filter points to an approaching maximum term. The parole board’s TPM points to a review month. General parole eligibility under O.C.G.A. § 42-9-45 marks when consideration may occur, subject to exceptions. None of these fields alone proves that the person left the institution.
O.C.G.A. § 17-10-6.1 imposes mandatory rules for listed serious violent felonies and can restrict sentence reduction or parole during mandatory portions. Georgia research does not support a broad claim that every person serves one fixed percentage. The exact sentence, offense, credit eligibility, Board action, conduct, program terms, and any outside hold can change the release path.
Confirm the final event by checking GDC status after the expected date, then use the parolee database and DCS when parole follows. If the record changes to another institution, treat that as a transfer. If GDC lists the person as inactive, verify whether the underlying status is parole, maximum release, discharge, or another recorded event.
Note: Recheck GDC after the expected date because a projected term, Board review, transfer, and completed release are separate events.
